As you cruise into 2019, setting intentions for the months ahead, here’s my top 5 New Year’s resolution playlist to keep you motivated as you’re hustling towards your goals.

#5 – Rudy Theme song – Rudy Soundtrack

In the 1993 underdog/effort football biographical movie, Daniel "Rudy" Ruettiger defies the nay-sayers and achieves his dreams by earning a walk-on spot for the University of Notre Dame football team through sheer will and effort. This uplifting theme song builds to a triumphant refrain, so if you’re looking for a melody to propel yourself to victory, look no further.

Check out the fascinating story behind the soundtrack here.

#4 – Running down a dream – Tom Petty

Tom perfectly captures that unstoppable feeling like when you’re driving carefree with windows down and the sun shining in, singing along to tunes on the radio. Free your mind with a long drive while appreciating this classic intro guitar riff from 1989’s Full Moon Fever.

Petty also voiced the character of Luanne’s baby daddy, Lucky, on the animated TV series King of the Hill. In one episode he tells Bobby Hill he will help him “run down that dream” of eating a fresh corn chip off the production line.

#3 – Lose Yourself – Eminem

Turning point times call for urgent rhymes. We've all been B-Rabbit, craving respect and feeling sick with fear when stepping up onto opportunity’s stage. You better build own your ballad - don’t let it slip and don't let 'em see mom's spaghetti.

#2 – Eye of Tiger – Survivor

It’s been called motivational rocket fuel, let the Rocky III theme song fill your tank of determination. But, don’t let success make you complacent because there’s someone, like Clubber Lang, who wants it more.

#1 – I want to get better – Bleachers

It bears repeating: I want get better….better, better, better. This song has the power to have a YouTube subscriber comment “This song made me shower, get dressed, clean my room, and take a long, silent walk through my neighborhood. Yesterday, I didn't even want to move. Bleachers 1 - My Depression 0. Thank you, Bleachers, for this song - so much.”

This song propelled me through hours of training for my first half marathon and for that, I will always be thankful. Celebrate your successes with this tune and some ketchup toast.

Honourable Mentions:

Brave – Sara Bareilles

Don’t’ Stop Me Now – Queen

Courage – The Tragically Hip

Grace, too – The Tragically Hip
